All systems go at Bio X Cell in Nusajaya

JOHOR BAHARU: An estimated RM450 million has been invested so far into the making of Bio X Cell, a 64-hectare site in Nusajaya, Iskandar Malaysia, which will offer the best for the bio-technology industry.
By the time operations begin in early 2013, Bio X Cell will have an estimated gross development value (GDV) of RM1.5 billion, with 14 companies set to do manufacturing work there.
As things stand now, four companies – Biocon and Agila Specialities, both from India, Metabolic Explorer from France and Glycos Biotechnolgies from the United Statesa have already committed themselves to Bio X Cell.
“Another 10 are in the pipeline and we are confident of attracting a total of 14 companies all in all when the park is fully operational,” said Rizatuddin Ramli, chief executive officer of Bio X Cell, at a media briefing in Nusajaya yesterday.
He said the aim was to build a conducive biotech park with the right infrastructure, utilities and facilities to support the industrial and healthcare biotech companies.
“We are right on track.
By the third quarter of next year, we should see completion of key components of the park like the manufacturing plants; ccntral utilities facility catering for the supply of treated water and laboratories,” he added. — Bernama
