Iskandar getting convention centre, two new hotels

The 3.5ha Rentak Iskandar City Square in Nusajaya will have two hotels and one office tower plus a four-storey convention retail centre when it is completed by 2019.

The RM960 million project, developed by Rentak Tebrau Sdn Bhd, will feature the latest Melia Iskandar Malaysia hotel with 450 rooms and a four-star Innside Iskandar Johor (350 rooms) that will occupy two adjacent buildings.

“This project will include the first five-star hotel in Nusajaya and also the largest convention centre in the state of Johor,” said Rentak chief executive officer Jerome Tan in a statement.

He said PJM Group, a real estate development holding company based in Indonesia, is one of the shareholders of this project – marking the first establishment of PJM Group overseas.

Noting that the first Melia hotel opened in Kuala Lumpur in 1990, the Spanish hotel chain vice chairman and CEO Gabriel Escarrer said: “The signature of the two new hotels in Malaysia, further strengthens our commitment to a region in which we have quadrupled our portfolio in the past few years.”
