Kampung Kong Kong Laut To Be Promoted As A Destination For Eco-Tourism

JOHOR BAHRU, April 28 (Bernama) -- The Johor Tourism Department will aggressively promote Kampung Kong Kong Laut, near Masai, as a eco-tourism destination to attract tourists to the Iskandar Malaysia area.

Its director Mohd Hafiz Ahmad said this was the state's effort to empower residents via a partnership with Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) through the Kawan Iskandar Malaysia (KIM) and Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan programmes by upgrading basic facilities and training the local residents who are involved.

"We see Kong Kong Laut which is rich in flora and fauna, featuring various types of mangrove and different species of birds as a potential tourism destination for locals and tourists, especially those who love nature.

"This is a new attraction compared to the already established Legoland Theme Park and Puteri Harbour Family park," he told reporters after a briefing on tourism potential in Kong Kong Laut, here Monday.

He also said that the eco-tourism project had a two-pronged approach, namely to generate revenue from tourism activities as well as instilling awareness on the need to protect and manage the environment and nature among those under Iskandar Malaysia.

Kong Kong is said to be a haven for anglers and sea sport enthusiasts with the waterfront providing a perfect setting and it is also famous for its seafood.

The quiet and tranquil setting of the sea front adds to the romantic dinners here, especially popular with young people from Johor Bahru and Singapore.

For those seeking a quiet place to spend their evenings or weekends, they can put up for a night or two here and take a drive or walk to the nearby fishing village as an added unique experience in itself.

Not far away, is the 117-acre (0.5 km2) Agriculture Park, has many varieties of durian, the king of Malaysian fruit, a large area of pandan coconuts and other types of fruits can also be found.
